We wanted to get this type of bank to teach our 8-yo that the ATM wasn’t a magic box we could get endless cash out of. It has taught him the lessons that no amount of words could.
He now understands that the amount you put in is the amount you can take out. And he understands the power of savings — before he would spend his allowance on candy & Pokemon cards; now he would rather watch his balance go up, and thought very carefully before he purchased a game he’d been wanting.
He also loves to impress his friends by putting in his ATM card and entering his secret PIN.
We haven’t had any real problems with our bank. The dollar feeder works fine. The coin counter doesn’t recognize pennies and sometimes other coins, but you can deposit coins without using the counter. It’s true you have to type in the amount of deposit before you make a deposit, but that’s no different from a regular ATM.
Highly recommended as an inexpensive toy that also helps a child learn how ATM’s really work.

I bought two of these for my daughters for Christmas, but unfortunately they will be going back to the store tomorrow. The idea is great and we were all looking forward to a fun way for our girls to save their money – but we found this item to be dysfunctional and not worth even the sale price we paid ($15.00 at Macy’s). A few notes:
– The bill feeder kept sticking and continued to churn even after the bill was fed. We thought maybe it jammed after a few bills, but even after emptying it, the feeder continued to run.
– Each ‘deposit’ has to be manually entered, which I guess should be expected given this is really just a ‘toy’.
– The coin slot has some recognition capability, but we noticed it didn’t correctly recognize pennies.
My girls tried the toys for about 1/2 an hour and really liked the idea of their own ‘ATM’ machine, but given the issues with functionality we decided to face the return lines tomorrow.

We bought one for each of our kids for Christmas. They had so much fun playing with it and inserting their Christmas money. I did have to exchange my daughters as some of the letters did not display. We did not have any problems with the bill feeder or the coin counter. My kids are 8 and 11 and I would recommend this item.

My son (age 5) has wanted his own ATM bank for over a year, so when I saw this one on sale at Bed, Bath, & Beyond, plus I had a $5 off coupon, I was thrilled. Unfortunately, the first one I bought didn’t work–only 3 of the # buttons worked. We took it back and exchanged it, even driving to another store because my son wanted it so much. We brought it home, only to discover that it doesn’t read bills at all, and only reads coins sometimes. Since the whole point of this was to get him a bank to keep track of his “deposits,” we’re both quite disappointed. It’s going back to the store, and we’re going to keep looking. I guess this is a case of “you get what you pay for.” Don’t bother with this thing.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter and the drawer broke the 2nd time she used it (plastic broke). I was with her when it happened and she is a careful kid. Needs to be made of more sturdy plastic. Also drawer is small and it was jammed w/her $1′s so I had to reset it.
